D&D Campaigns Go Beyond This Summer with New App!
Don’t want to carry your DMG, Monster Manual, and Player’s Handbook to your next D&D campaign? No problem!
Wizards of the Coast announced D&D Beyond, a new app coming this summer that provides a digital toolkit for Dungeons and Dragons: 5th Edition. It’s a compendium of the multiple books used to play the popular role playing game that will allow you to browse, create, and manage campaigns and character sheets. It will allow you to access your game from any device.
This is such a cool idea, though I’m honestly surprised Wizards of the Coast hasn’t done this sooner. Let’s be honest here. Who hasn’t used torrented copies of D&D manuals at some point in a campaign? I haven’t played in years, and I still have mine on a hard drive somewhere. To make sure they’re still making a profit, I’m going to assume this app will cost some kind of monetary amount for players.
I also really hope there’s some kind friend connection element to the app. It would be helpful if your group could share the data in the campaign or even see dice roles. Part of the reason I haven’t played in years is because my DM lives about two hours away. We tried playing over Skype, but it’s hard to keep everyone honest about dice roles, characters, etc. If we could share that data, it would make it easier to play even if we’re not in the same room.
This looks like it’s going to be an amazing new app! I can’t wait to see how it works this summer.
