Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” Coming to Small Screens!
The best vampire books (in my humble opinion) are coming to television! Anne Rice’s acclaimed series The Vampire Chronicles is in the works for a television adaptation!
After reclaiming the theatrical rights, Rice with her son Christopher Rice are working on the pilot at the moment to create a “faithful rendering” of the books.
TV Line is reporting:
“Over the years you all have told me how much you want to see a Game of Thrones-style, faithful rendering of this material,” she says. “Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want.”
For those unfamiliar with the source material, The Vampire Chronicles first introduced readers to Louis, an aristocrat in 18th Century New Orleans who was transformed into a vampire by the menacing Lestat. Subsequent releases have focused on the Lestat character.
“A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe,” she writes. “In this the new golden age of television, such a series is the way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold.”
A dozen books already comprise the Vampire Chronicles series, with a 13th release, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, due out in stores later this month.
I’m so excited! There’s so much packed into these books that the movies could never do them justice. I think in a weekly format, we’ll finally get to see a wonderful adaptation.
