Trailer: 'The Final Girls,' The Halloween Movie We Can't Wait For

By  |

Admittedly, I’m not a big horror fan, but I can’t wait to see The Final Girls, a new horror-comedy arriving soon. The film stars Taissa Farmiga and Malin Ackerman.  The “final girl” is a familiar trope of horror films, as it’s the girl who survives to the end, and often, that’s her one defining characteristic. This new movie is going to turn that trope on its head. This movie is not “girl being pursued by killer,” this is a girl who happens to be in a horror movie. To get what I mean, just watch.

The Final Girls is out October 9, 2015 in theaters. If the trailer didn’t get you, try this summary by the director.

“It’s Pleasantville in a trashy horror movie from the 80s with a little Back to the Future thrown in, and a spoon full of Terms of Endearment with a dash of Scream and two dollops of Purple Rose of Cairo for good measure.”

Or the official one:

Max, recently orphaned, goes to see a screening of a B-horror movie her mother made twenty years earlier. When Max and her friends find themselves in the world of the film itself, they must apply their knowledge of horror tropes to survive.

The horror genre hasn’t seen a good comedic film ala Scream in a while, and so this looks it will be a welcome addition.

What do you think of the trailer?
