“I Am Chris Farley” Trailer Shows Bittersweet Legacy of Late SNL Star

Spike TV will premier a documentary honoring the life of late Saturday Night Live Star Chris Farley on August 10. The documentary will go to VOD and DVD releases one day later, on August 11. Buzzfeed got a preview of the movie, revealing an emotional trailer that more or less promises to make you laugh and cry.

The trailer features clips from Adam Sandler, Dvid Spade, Christina Applegate, Molly Shannon, Dan Aykroyd, Tom Arnold, Mike Myers, Bob Odenkirk, Bob Saget and Lorne Michaels. Farley died of a drug overdose in 1997. “Success in show business does not always create the best version of people,” says Saget. Farley certainly struggled to balance his health and personal life with the places he was being taken by his comedic talents.

Farley’s most iconic characters may be Matt Foley and my personal favorite, air quote machine Bennett Brauer. However, his s most authentic self was probably expressed during his sweet, shy interviews for SNL’s The Chris Farley Show, like the classic interview with Paul McCartney.

With every question, Farley is pretty much channelling the inner fan girl in all of us.
