The Litch Line #4 – Recap of Empathy is a Boner Killer: Yes, And…

By  |

This week we’re talking about episode 3 of the third season of Orange is the New Black, Empathy is a Boner Killer. The theme of this episode is control, and all of the characters are trying to improv themselves somewhere else. The characters struggle to control themselves and each other, especially Nicky, Piper and Alex. We explore Nicky’s penchant for self-destruction and discuss what in the Devil is going on with Piper and Alex. Topics include:

  • A look at Nicky’s addiction problems and how closely they resemble the real-world struggles many people face;

  • How Piper and Alex’s hate sex rivals the hate sex on Scandal;

  • Whether Alex should really be forgiving Piper after that improv class;

  • The way OITNB handled the “Alex Vause Sex Symbol” phenomenon;

  • How we think the episode clears the deck of Alex/Piper and other old business;

  • Our impressions of the season through 3 episodes.
