Get Your Dancing Shoes! ‘Once Upon A Time’ is Planning a Musical Episode!

By  |

I usually don’t like to write about unconfirmed news, but this is a pretty fun rumor about one of my favorite shows. Will Snow White and Prince Charming sing love ballads? Will Rumpelstiltskin lament his ways in a dirge? Will SwanQueen and CaptainSwan throw down a Hamilton style rap battle for Emma’s love? Will there be a musical montage explaining what happened to Will Scarlet?

TVLine is reporting that a possible musical episode of Once Upon A Time is coming for the spring. Also, it appears that many of the Once cast has brushed up on their vocal skills. A spokesperson from ABC has yet to confirm or deny this news.

This is an interesting direction for Once. While they have ties to all the Disney movies, I never felt the need for a musical episode. More than likely it will be a fun romp full of camp.

Much of the cast has musical backgrounds too. Earlier in his career, Sean Maguire (who returned as Robin Hood in the midseason finale back in December) pursued a career as a pop star. He released several albums before deciding to focus on an acting career. You can still purchase his music on Amazon.

Colin O’Donoghue left his band of ten years, The Enemies, to focus on an acting career. He’s still great friends with his old band mates and records with them when he can. You can see him in their older videos:

Jennifer Morrison also told E! Online back in 2011 that the entire cast love to sing:

“Josh Dallas, Ginny Goodwin, me…. I don’t know if Robert Carlyle sings; he probably does. I feel like we have a lot of musically inclined people in the cast. We’ll see!”

This trend of musical episodes isn’t a new thing. Shows like Scrubs, Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, and Psych all had their actors flex their musical muscles. Flash and Supergirl will have a crossover musical episode this March. It will be fun to see Once Upon A Time finally cross into this realm as well when it returns March 5th. I’ll leave you with this video of Mr. Maguire and Mr. O’Donoghue singing together:

Hope set out into the world to be a Pokemon Coordinator. When she realized that Pokemon were not real, she pursued her other passion: writing. Hope was raised in fandoms and saw how they can help save the world from her work with The Harry Potter Alliance. Now, she works to bring that love into writing one article at a time. She's also a diehard Atlanta Braves fan, so don't diss her team.
