Everything We Learned from the Official Jessica Jones Trailer

By  |

“God didn’t do this, the devil did. And I’m gonna find him.”

And with those words, Netflix released its official first look at Jessica Jones. It may seem like we’ve seen the trailer for Jessica Jones already, but those were just teasers. Such is the way of the internet these days as the major companies roll out TV and film teasers for the diehards, then the full trailer for the general audience. Although its’ not Star Wars trailer on Monday Night Football, we’re still very buzzed about this show.

What’s new in the trailer?

  • We get a preview of as Luke Cage. Can I tell you how awesome the casting of Mike Colter is for that role? I love his work on The Good Wife as the drug kingpin turned businessman Lemond Bishop (who causes all sorts of trouble for our heroes on TGW). Coulter will be seen alongside Jones (who he is married to in the comics), in his own Netflix series, Luke Cage, and as part of the Defenders, also on Netflix. Yay!
  • In this TV version of their story, Cage has just met Jones. I think it will be great to watch their relationship develop.
  • We see David Tennant (Dr. Who) as the face of ultimate evil, Jessica’s nemesis, Kilgrave. An earlier teaser showed Tennant’s face, but here we get a sense of his absolutely chilling portrayal as the man who shattered Jessica’s life. It appears as if he has some kind of mind control powers.
  • Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) is on board as Jeryn Hogarth, who is described as a “no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica…if Jessica doesn’t completely alienate her first.” I feel like Moss has been MIA for a long time and I’m excited to see her back. Oh and guess what? This character is gay.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones will debut Friday, November 20 on Netflix.
